How Important is Core Strength?

To be whole body strong, we need stability AND strength from the core. Think of the truck of a tall oak tree. Picture a grand tree, standing alone in a field with limbs almost as long as the tree runs high. During a storm, strong winds from all directions moving and swaying the branches. Leaves are being blown into the sky and branches flung metres from where the oak stands.

And yet the trunk barely moves. Regardless of the tumultuous forces being placed upon it, the trunk goes unharmed. It is strong right from it’s very core.

Your body is much the same as this tree. In order for your legs and arms to be strong and stable – you need to focus on a strong centre, your core.

EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION

To be optimal, you want to include exercises that challenge both your STABILITY and your STRENGTH.

  • SIDE PLANKS
  • HOLLOW HOLD
  • AB WHEEL
  • V-SIT HOLD
  • HANGING GARHAMMER RAISE
  • INCLINE GARHAMMER RAISE
  • SINGLE LEG EXERCISES THAT CHALLENGE YOUR STABILITY
